Abundantly More: Grace

When my husband was struggling with cancer I knew that, once we came out on the other side, I wanted to find a way to celebrate God’s grace during those dark days. That is how Ephesians 2:8 ended up tattooed on my left arm.

Every time I look down and read “Saved by Grace through Faith” I see God’s undeserved blessings staring back at me. The health of my husband. The birth of our two biological daughters before cancer became our reality, and the gift of our adopted son after the doctors told us we could no longer have children. Grace. It is what has carried, and continues to carry, me through difficult moments.

Grace: Favor, good will, kindness. The free and unmerited love and favor of God, the spring and source of all the benefits men receive from him.

Noah Webster

God’s grace is great, far greater than my own personal experience. It is etched into the past, the present, and the future of humanity itself. Grace is the manger, the cross, and the empty grave. Grace is what each of us experiences that very first time we kneel humbly before the throne of God, and everyday after. Grace is receiving what we do not deserve, a satisfying and abundant life, and what we cannot earn, eternity in heaven. Grace is God’s gift, beautifully wrapped and freely given.

Grace is a declaration of His love.

Monday: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. – Ephesians 2:8 NLT

Tuesday: Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT

Wednesday: And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved. – Romans 11:6 NLT

Thursday: So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. – Hebrews 4:16 NLT

Friday: Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18 NLT
