Our family owns property on Cross Lake – the best kept secret of the Finger Lakes region. While other lakes in the area have become extremely popular, especially Canandaigua Lake and Skaneateles Lake, Cross Lake has remained a quiet little haven. A place of rest. A place of peace.
During the months of May through October, this is where our family spends the majority of our time. It’s where I feel renewed and restored. It’s where we go to get away from the busyness of life. It’s where we escaped to find the strength to endure those difficult days after my father-in-law’s sudden passing. And It’s where I have since found healing and hope.
Peace: In a general sense, a state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals, or to the temper of the mind.Noah Webster
But what I love most about Cross Lake is that there, surrounded by undisturbed creation, I can feel God’s presence all around. His quiet whisper in the waves. His gentle touch in the wind. When I sit and listen, I can visibly see and audibly hear creation celebrating – shouting joyfully. And the serenity of it all points my soul back to the Creator who’s peace exceeds anything we can understand. And there, my joy is complete!
Peace is God’s gift to us.
